What it does
- ae_create_comp · ae_add_layerCreates and editsComps, layers, text, keyframes and expressions, from what you ask for.
- ae_add_effect · ae_set_propertyUses your pluginsIt sees the plugins you have, adds them and tunes their parameters. Tested with Saber, by Video Copilot.
- ae_capture_frameChecks its own workIt renders a frame and looks at it, so it can fix things without you describing them.
- ae_renderRendersExports headless, with After Effects' own render engine.
Install it in 3 steps

- Restart and testRestart After Effects and your AI agent. Then type: “use ae_status”.
Or paste this to your agent
Works in any agent with file and terminal access (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor…). It installs for you and asks permission first.
Install Free After Effects MCP by Videazo Super Intelligence on my computer (Windows). Follow these steps and ask for my confirmation before installing: 1. Check that I'm on Windows and have After Effects and Node.js 18 or newer. If Node.js is missing, tell me how to install it (winget install OpenJS.NodeJS.LTS) and wait for my go-ahead. 2. Download only from this link: https://github.com/joshcreativos-ctrl/after-effects-mcp/archive/refs/heads/main.zip. Save it to a temporary folder and unzip it. 3. Inside the unzipped folder run `node install.mjs --dry-run` and show me what it will do. 4. With my go-ahead, run `node install.mjs`. It doesn't need administrator rights. 5. Tell me what I have to do myself, once: in After Effects, Edit > Preferences > Scripting & Expressions, and turn on "Allow Scripts to Write Files and Access Network". I turn that checkbox on, not you. Then restart After Effects and my AI agent. 6. When I'm back, test with the ae_status tool and tell me whether it works.
Before you start
- You need an MCP-compatible AI agent: Claude (Desktop or Code), Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI or Windsurf. The tool is free; each agent has its own plans.
- Thoroughly tested with Claude. For the others, the installer registers it for you, but we haven't tested them one by one yet.
- You need Node.js. If you don't have it, the installer offers to install it.
- Your agent will be able to run code inside After Effects. Use it only with an agent you trust.
